One of the more painful experiences you can have with your eyes is getting sand in them as they lead to scratches that you can call corneal abrasions or even infection on the eye. If you live near the beach or happen to be out on a windy day, you can be at high risk for this. Learning how to do the first aid of this priblem is important for you to know. Any foreign object that enters your eye can result to profuse tearing. One of the ways to actually do first aid for it is through mimicking the tearing process that we naturally do which would flush the affected eye.
Before you start, you should wash your hands with antibacterial soap. This is to prevent further infection to your eye. Next you would need to clean the inside of a drinking cup using the antibacterial soap. Makesure that all traces for that soap is rinsed thoroughly as it can further irritate your eye. Fill the drinking cup to the brim and make sure the water is within room temperature. You can always use tap water but bottled water is ideal. If you do use tap water, make sure oyu run it for a full minute before filling your cup as this is to avoid contamination from the water that just came out from your pipes that were just sitting for a long period of time.
Next place the water filled cup on a flat surface. Then lower your head over the cup where you would be immerse your affected eye in the water. Blinking your eye while being immered in the water will help in flushing out those sand particles. Do this for 10 to 20 seconds so that all the sand particles may be removed but in the event that it hasn’t been removed yet, flush your eye for up to 15 minutes. Make sure that you look into any signs or symptoms of infection within the next 48 hours starting after the sand was taken out from the affected eye. Most of the signs you will encounter are redness, swelling, pain or discomfort and eye discharges. Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if this occurs. Follow these steps for you to clear sand from your eyes easily.
